GENERAL DETAILS

THE SHOP – VET TV

Most military shows and films show the heroic nature of the infantry, with gunfights and loss of life that makes audiences tear up. This is not that show – Welcome to The Shop. Set in an Army Admin Office, The Shop follows the everyday shenanigans of what it means to be in the rear, with the gear. Get ready to embrace the suck.

SHOOT DATES:  March 9th – 27th. Shoot dates are contingent upon the character, but production dates are locked from March 9th – 27th.

FILM LOCATION:  3420 Mission Inn Avenue, Riverside, CA 92501. (please review distance – not in Coachella Valley)

TRAVEL:  If you are traveling more than 30 miles to and from the set, you will be reimbursed mileage.

DAILY PAY:  $168 for 12 hours.

FOOD:  Catered twice daily plus snacks

IMPORTANT:  Male roles: You must be comfortable with getting a military style haircut. The production will have a hairstylist on-set providing haircuts, so you don’t have to pay for one. You must be clean-shaven. If you are not comfortable with a military hairstyle and clean-shaven, please do not apply.

DIALOGUE:  For roles with dialogue, if you are selected to read, you will be given your lines so you can videotape. You do not need to pay for a recording – a cell phone recording in a quiet location will do.

WARDROBE:  Will be provided.

UNION STATUS:  Non-Union.

DIALOGUE ROLES (all roles have dialogue):

CAPT PAUL MAYNARD:  Male, 30-40, any ethnicity, military haircut, clean-shaven. The epitome of a tough but fair leader. Maynard wants to restore order to his new shop, but not at the cost of throwing anyone under the bus. He motivates by setting the pace, but he’s hiding a secret. His facade of being an efficient, empowering leader will inevitably be disclosed as being an internal agent.

SPC JOHNNY ORTEGA:  Male, 20-25, African American/mixed, military haircut, clean-shaven. Ortega could have easily slipped into a life of crime if it wasn’t for his ambitions outside of the Army. He idolizes Donald Glover and has a pension for old spice. The Army keeps him grounded, but he’s got big plans to become a creative polymath. He acts, he raps, he does stand-up comedy and has a YouTube channel that’s “blowing up.”

SFC EASTON:  Male, Caucasian, 30-39, military haircut, clean-shaven. Meticulous, orderly and fair. Some say he takes his job a little too seriously and tends to rub certain soldiers the wrong way. Sincerely wants to make things efficient and restore order but seeks constant validation from superiors like Sgt Major Gunn. Enjoys 90s alternative rock, lives and dies by his google calendar and rocks Birkenstock’s in his leisure time.

SGT MAJ GUNN:  Male, 40-50, ethnically ambiguous, military haircut, clean-shaven. A jovial good-natured man, with a dark side. To the common man, the Sgt would appear to be a squared away family man, but his spotless record comes with a few caveats. His catchphrase “shing-ding-a-ling” makes you think he’s as kind-hearted as he appears, but he will stop it nothing to use his power and authority for personal gain (may receive $200 pay for this role).

PFC JACOBS:  Male, 20-30, any ethnicity, military haircut, clean-shaven. A polite unlucky Soldier who just wants his paperwork looked at by anyone at S-1.

HAZMAT SOLDIER:  Male, 20-30, any ethnicity, military haircut, clean-shaven. An expert at his occupation but still doesn’t take his profession too seriously.

SPC JACKO:  Male, 18-29, any ethnicity, military haircut, clean-shaven. From the S-6 shop, comes to help the S-1 with their IT issues. He may be in IT but defers any real work to civilian contractors. Temporary fixes to permanent problems are his MO.

MIA:  Female, 20-30, Filipina. Opportunist quick tempered and prudent. Mia always looks for the path of least resistance and seeks to marry any service member willing to marry her.

MIMI:  Female, 20-30, Filipina. A massage parlor attendant, who charges a premium for happy endings (NO NUDITY).

MISSY:  Female, 20-30, Filipina. A ROBUST massage parlor attendant, who charges a premium for happy endings (NO NUDITY).
